I received this cute wooden frame for a wedding present a few years ago and I LOVE it. I'm the sort of person who re-arranges her furniture every three days, so I am always changing out the photos in my frames. I decided to use this one to display a different piece of artwork every month. It's an easy way to decorate for holidays!
This project only takes about 15 minutes from start to finish! It's a great way to use up your stash. My frame is 8x8 but you will cut your papers/embellishments to fit the size of your frame! Also, replace any of my materials for your own- I used brown mailing paper but you could use patterned paper or wrapping paper!
Step 1) Remove the glass from your frame
Step 2) Trace the opening of the frame onto the back of a piece of cardstock and cut the cardstock to size
Step 3) Flip the cardstock over (so that your trace lines don't show!)
Step 4) Tear a piece of brown mailing paper into a rectangle, spray it with glimmer mist and adhere it to the cardstock. You want the righthand edge of the paper to be on the middle of the cardstock.
Step 5) Cut a strip of fabric with pinking shears and layer it behind the lefthand side of the brown mailing paper.
Step 6) Adhere a bingo card over the top of the brown mailing paper so that it is slightly off center and overlapping the bottom right corner of the paper. I used a bingo card from Jenni Bowln Studio.
Step 7) Cut a strip of patterned fabric and adhere it over the bing card, so that the right edge of the fabric touches the center of the bingo card and the left edge is overlapping the brown mailing paper.
Step 8) Cut two hearts out of book paper (I used an old reader's digest book). Be sure that one heart is slightly smaller than the other. Ink the edges of the heartswith black ink.
Here is how to adhere the hearts so that they stand up on their own and are three dimensional:
First, crease the heart in the center so that it is folded in half.. Then apply a thin line of glue to the back of the heart, along the crease. Holding the heart still folded in half, gently press the glued-covered crease to the page. Blow on it to help it dry faster. Then apply a thin line of glue on either side of the heart, where the crease meets the page, like shown:
That will dry clear and you won't see it when the heart is opened. Then use something to hold the heart open slightly while it dries. I like to use glue sticks:
I showed this to you on the second heart, but I did it for both. Once the first is dry, then repeat the whole process for the second. Once they are dry, pinch them a little to make them both stand up.
You could just sew the hearts directly to the page and that would be super easy! I don't have a sewing machine and even if I did, I've accidentally sewn my fingers enough times to know that it's much safer for me to use glue. I'm a bit accident prone when it comes to sewing.
Step 10) Tie a knot in a piece of twine and adhere it to the top center of the middle piece of fabric.
Step 11) Use letter stickers to spell out a phrase!
Step 12) Adhere a patterned bracket to the left of the heart. I used on from Making Memories.
Step 13) Place the piece in the frame, leaving out the glass so that it doesn't smoosh down your hearts.
Step 14) Hang it on your wall!
